$750,000 grant to pay for Circle streetscape

Work will soon commence to resurface and re-curb the downtown Circle as part of a $750,000 Streetscape IX project.

The grant had been awarded, and the Sebring City Council accepted the Community Development Block Grant from the Department of Community Affairs. The funding came through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The plans and specifications for the project had been in development since 2008 and all engineering expenses had been paid by the Community Redevelopment Agency.

A Joint Project Agreement Council was recently approved with the Florida Department of Transportation to tie the resurfacing of the circle with the streetscape project.

It is anticipated the project would go out to bid in January and it could be under construction as soon as March or April.

"This is a no brainer guys," said Council President John Griffin after some deliberation by the council. "We're getting $750,000."

Council also unanimously agreed to hire Fred Fox Enterprises for $35,000 on a two-year contract to administer the grant.
