Recently I heard a discussion on a local radio station about the deficiencies of our library system. This made me think of an announcement on the same station reporting possible library closings in Volusia and Palm Beach counties.
Could this happen in Highlands? You betcha! Considering the income climate, we could find ourselves driving miles for current best sellers, DVDs, videos and computer usage time.
Our Lake Placid library is staffed with dedicated, friendly and knowledgeable employees. Their willingness to help surpasses any library I've visited. Mrs. Clenique, always with a smile, races to order book requests from patrons and she goes beyond accommodating.
Since colonial times the church and library has always been a cultural heritage in every community. I encourage all patrons of our library system to become a member of Friends of the Library, a volunteer unit helping to enhance and improve the library system.
