A Sebring man was arrested Sunday on a warrant accusing him of stealing a generator from a woman who was trying to lease him property.

Scott Jameson Weltz, 42, of 1404 Wilson Drive, was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling while unarmed and grand theft of $300 or more but less than $5,000. He was released from the Highlands County Jail Sunday under a $2,000 bond.

On Oct. 3, the woman told authorities her Generac generator, valued at $2,000, had been stolen from her front porch, according to the arrest report.

"She stated she is attempting to lease the property to an individual named Scott, however, no lease agreement has been signed as of yet," Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Shannon Purvis wrote in the arrest report. "She stated the property is unoccupied at this time and is currently being repaired and is not currently in move-in condition."

The woman said the only people who should have been on the property were the lawn crew and the repair man. Her attorney, however, said Scott may have been on the property as well to check on the repairs, according to the report.

When Scott was identified as Scott Weltz, it was discovered he was on active felony probation for drug violations out of Broward County. Purvis went to the suspect's Highlands County residence and reportedly saw the generator off of a dirt path on a wooded lot.
