There wasn't much left after a fire fully engulfed a home Friday morning off Van Pelt Road.
West Sebring Fire Capt. Rob Singles said later he was not aware of anyone being home at the time of the blaze. He suspects the fire had been burning for a while before firefighters were radioed out around 9:30 a.m.
"It was pretty burned up," Singles said.
Firefighters with both West Sebring and DeSoto City spent the rest of the morning and a majority of the afternoon knocking the fire down, according to Singles. In one hair-raising moment, parts of the roof collapsed and barely missed striking two firefighters.
Singles said the investigation has been turned over to the state fire marshal's office.
