To the rescue

It's a great feeling to know your vehicle will start and not leave you stranded.

My wife and I were plagued with this concern after another transmission shop repeatedly failed to fix our van under their warranty but Cooper Transmission on U.S. 27 South rescued us.

The family-owned-and operated business took its time to find the problem and fix it with a simple part.

We were treated with courtesy, respect and fairness. Charlie Cooper and crew do honest, reliable work, which is very reassuring in these difficult times. No wonder they've been in business since 1959.

Power of the press

In our desire to inform the people of Highlands County of the importance of Meals on Wheels and of the interest that the Elks National Foundation has in making an impact on local communities, Lake Placid Elks Lodge 2661 and Lake Placid Meals on Wheels forwarded a news item to your newspaper, as well as the two other local newspapers.

The news release stated that the Elks National Foundation endowed Lake Placid Meals on Wheels with over $11,000 in community impact grants over the past three years and also that Meals on Wheels has delivered over 5,000 meals by 30 volunteers in its three years of operation.

As a direct result of this exposure, Meals on Wheels has already acquired one new driver and four new clients.

This impressed upon me the importance of the press, especially in small communities that do not have local TV and radio news coverage.

The Lake Placid Elks and Lake Placid Meals on Wheels say thank you to the power of the press that you so graciously offer to our local churches, social and charitable organizations.

Thanksgiving meals

The outreach committee of Atonement Lutheran Church would like to thank each and every person or business for their generous contributions of food, money, work and or time to the "free Thanksgiving meal" for our community.

Thanks to your generous contributions, we were able to serve 419 meals. Thank you again and we pray for God's continued blessing on you and your community.

Our condominium development hired Spurlock Roofing of Avon Park in 2002 to put on a new roof.

Seven years later, we developed a problem. A Spurlock supervisor looked at the problem within 24 hours of my calling and accepted responsibility for something they felt was not done to their standards seven years ago.

Recently, at 7:30 a.m. Mr. Spurlock was on our roof with a crew repairing the roof with a smile on his face.

I don't ever recall a company acting so professionally with absolutely no conversation that somehow it is our fault.
