Tuesday's Washington Heights shooting is officially being worked as a homicide following the death of the 22-year-old victim.
Law enforcement responded around 4:30 p.m. after reports came in about a person being shot three times.
The victim, Kristopher Edward Brown, 22, of Sebring, later died from the injuries he suffered in the shooting, according to the Sebring Police Department.
Radio chatter Tuesday initially indicated that Brown was conscious following the shooting, but his condition began to deteriorate because of a hit to the stomach.
Police have named Darren David Cheatham, 19, as a suspect in Tuesday's shooting. He is listed as a black male with short, black hair, a thin build, is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He may also be missing a tooth.
Cheatham was last seen wearing a tan shirt and dark shorts, according to the SPD. His last known address is 1304 Lucas Drive in Sebring. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous and was still at large Wednesday afternoon, according to SPD Lt. Bruce Crum.
The investigation is continuing and Crum said at this time, they did not have a motive for the murder.
Anyone with information about Cheatham's whereabouts is asked to Investigator Michael Hirsch with SPD at (863) 381-1178. Those who wish to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward should call the Heartland Crime Stoppers at (800) 226-TIPS (8477).
