It will be "A Christmas to Remember" and organizers of the annual Lake Placid Christmas Parade are hopeful the weather will cooperate this weekend for one of the town's biggest events of the year.
The parade, whose theme focuses on Christmas memories, will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.
The parade will step off at the corner of Dal Hall Boulevard and North Main Avenue. It will proceed south on Main until reaching Interlake Boulevard. It will then head east on Interlake to U.S. 27. Only floats and other entrants will be allowed on Dal Hall and North Main after 5 p.m. Saturday.
A total of 83 units, including the float with Santa Claus aboard, will be participating. The number of units is down from last year when 101 entered the parade, according to Arlene Tuck, who is a member of the parade committee.
Tuck noted that the number doesn't include fire trucks and horses. There will be plenty of both.
Those who will be riding horses in the parade have been made aware of a new law that became effective Oct. 1 this year. Referred to as "Nicole's Law," it requires minors under the age of 16 years to wear approved riding helmets while riding an equine on any publicly-owned or controlled property.
Lake Placid Mayor Tom Katsanis will be the grand marshal.
