An unidentified person was reportedly shot late Tuesday afternoon in the Washington Heights area.

Very little information was available at press time, but around 4:30 p.m. dispatch radioed emergency responders to head to 948 EO Douglas Ave. in reference to a person being shot three times.

Radio chatter indicated the person was initially conscious, but the condition started to deteriorate because of an injury to the stomach.

Investigators from both the Sebring Police Department and Highlands County Sheriff's Office had roped off an area on Lemon Avenue just in front of the Washington Heights Convenience Store to collect evidence from the shooting.

K9 units were also brought into the area to help search for the shooter. At 5:45 p.m., there appeared to be no one in custody and the investigation was continuing.
