A Bowling Green woman later died from injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle accident Friday at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Sun 'n Lake Boulevard.

Beverly J. Johnson, 79, was taken to Florida Hospital Heartland Division just after 11 a.m. Friday once emergency workers freed her from a 2000 Toyota Camry using the Jaws of Life. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Johnson started turning left onto U.S. 27 from Sun 'n Lake Boulevard after the traffic light turned green. Her car was then struck by 1999 Ford pickup, driven by Tony L. Whidden, 60, of Avon Park, the FHP said

Whidden reportedly did not stop at the red light as he was southbound on 27. He suffered only minor injuries in the accident. A passenger in the victim's car, Richard C. Johnson, 81, also only suffered minor injuries.

All involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts, according to the FHP. Total damages were approximately $8,000 and charges are pending.
