I am not given to writing letters to the editor but have felt compelled with a sense of urgency to respond to the accusations put forward recently by one of our Spring Lakes residents.
Having served a little over nine years on the SLID board, my background is quite deep and I can without hesitation say that the current commissioners are not and do not intend to do anything that would be out of line financially or authoritatively on their watch.
This is for the most part a thankless job and not a member of the board over the years as far as I know has ever undertook the job of soliciting votes to serve the Spring Lake Community for financial gain. If anything, there are times when I know a board member has requested themselves from voting on an issue that might have questionable ramifications.
I had the pleasure of appointing our first female board member, for which I am ever grateful that she agreed to take the position. And this has carried on to the present board of commissioners.
The new supervisor of Spring Lake had been a board member years earlier. And I had the pleasure of serving with him. I have at times disagreed with the board and spoken my piece and the board would take those matters to an open discussion and they were always resolved to the betterment of Spring Lake.
This board of commissioners is no different and if people would take the time to attend a regularly monthly meeting they would learn firsthand what is happening in our great community Spring Lake.
No one should shy away from good constructive criticism but it should be done open and above board, not behind the backs of those who are serving the community.
