Community Redevelopment Agency Commissioner Jim McCollum has taken an interest in gardening, community gardening that is.
At tonight's CRA meeting, McCollum has been placed on the agenda to discuss the creation of community gardens in the downtown area.
"I believe these would help bring people into our downtown area, generate business and provide a useful activity which could help some of our citizens during these difficult times," McCollum wrote in an April 9 e-mail to Executive Director Pete Pollard.
"I have discussed this matter with the president of the Sebring Garden Club and they seem to be interested in helping with this project and seem to be willing to supervise it."
McCollum is requesting the CRA budget about $1,000 to pay for water hook-up, irrigation, fertilizers and possibly assisting in the purchase of plants and related items.
The CRA will meet this evening at 5:30 p.m. at Sebring City Hall, 368 S. Commerce Ave.
