Charges dropped against LP man

A man arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer had all charges dropped against him.

Robert Lee Marre Jr., 55, of 384 N.W. Carole Road, Lake Placid, was also cleared of aggravated assault with a firearm and unlawful use of a police badge or identification. The state attorney's office announced a No Bill of the charges and requested Marre be released from custody.

Records from the state attorney's office indicate the charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence. The order was dated March 31.

Marre was arrested in February on warrants alleging that on Dec. 15, 2008, he showed a gold badge, identified himself as a police officer and pointed a firearm at a person riding a four-wheeler on an empty Lake Placid lot.

Marre told authorities he wanted to talk to the person about riding the vehicle on private property. The gold badge was to show he had a concealed weapons permit. Marre also said he did not pull the weapon from his waist, but it was on his right side and possibly exposed.

He also denied ever saying he was a law enforcement officer when he showed the badge.
