Amendment Two

I am writing in answer to the publication by Wes Leigh on Oct. 17. Mr. Leigh didn't want to talk about gay marriage; instead he used a smokescreen, attempting to scare senior citizens into thinking that their benefits will be taken away if Amendment Two is passed, which is not true. The small bundle of rights the Domestic Partners Registries have will all be available by signing a Durable Power of Attorney.

As for health and life insurance some municipalities give to gay partners, which is not required by law, won't change if Amendment Two passes or fails. Spending the taxpayers' money in this manor is an issue between those governing bodies and the voters.

Yes, there are laws on the books in Florida that prohibit gay marriage, but laws can be struck down in court, as recently happened to the gay marriage laws in California. Then our schools could be required to give equal time, teaching that marriage of homosexuals is as normal as marriage between a man and a woman, like is happening in other states. If Amendment Two is passed, the definition of marriage will be part of our Florida Constitution and cannot be changed by some liberal judge.

Mr. Leigh suggests you just don't vote on Amendment Two. He knows it will take a 60 percent majority to pass this amendment. Not voting yes is like voting no, and the homosexuals win.

The gay groups are using the above scare tactics and deceptions in an attempt to defeat this amendment. Don't let them.

If Mr. Leigh wants to live with another gay person he has the right to do so, but no right to require us to view it as normal by allowing him to enter into the institution of marriage, which was reserved for one man and one woman.
