A local man is in custody following a Sunday evening shooting that critically injured a second person.
Kevin David Brown, 20, of 404 S. Main Ave., Lake Placid, was arrested in connection with the crime, according to Lake Placid Police Chief Phil Williams.
Reports came in around 9:38 p.m., Sunday of a shooting in Lake Placid at the JFK Trailer Park, according to Williams. Highlands County Sheriff's Office Deputy Brennan Warner was flagged down by witnesses who led officers to the victim, Abraham Catalan Hernandez, 22, of 418 S. Main, Lake Placid.
Hernandez was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun after a verbal and physical altercation. Williams said the victim then went to his home, where his wife heard him "moaning in pain on the front patio." He was found bleeding and holding his back.
The victim was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. He was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon.
Lake Placid Police Officer Eddie San Miguel was able to get a brief statement from Hernandez, where he described Brown as the person who shot him. The suspect was arrested near the scene of the shooting after approaching sheriff's office deputies.
Williams added that backyard beer drinking may have taken place prior to the incident. The LPPD continues to investigate and anyone with additional information is asked to call Detective James Fansler at 863-699-3757.
