Sebring police continue their search for the shooter or shooters who fired upon officers Oct. 3 at Orange Blossom Avenue and First Street in the Highlands Home subdivision.
Police Cmdr. Steve Carr said Friday the department is following leads, but no arrests have been made in the case.
The investigation stems from the Oct. 3 incident, where a group of officers who were speaking to each other took fire in the subdivision.
"We saw muzzle blasts from the firearm as it was discharging and we heard the rounds striking the tree limbs above our head and the roadway near our cars," Sgt. Greg Barlaug reported at the time.
One of the rounds or a ricochet shattered the rear windshield of one of the SPD cars. The three officers involved were about three feet away and took cover behind their patrol units while radioing the sheriff's central dispatch for assistance.
Deputies and K-9 units arrived on the scene and began a track of the suspect or suspects, which led into a nearby orange grove.
Shoe impressions were found both in the grove and at Orange Blossom Avenue and Fifth Street. Shell casings were also found at the roadways.
