Bad Timing

Once again I state my opposition to using tax monies for tennis courts at public schools.

During a time of economic challenges, when teachers across the state are being laid off, and when many counties will face budget shortfalls paying for fuel for county vehicles and school district buses, it is not a time to consider spending money to build tennis courts on public school campus.

Any such recreational public monies should be spent on projects that benefit all residents - not just school children.

The so-called Sports Complex is just that - a complex - that should accommodate additional sports activities, including tennis courts.

Having a tennis court on a school campus is a waste of money. Only with direct supervision will children be allowed to use the facilities. Because the tennis courts will be on campus, the general pubic will be barred from any benefit from these tennis courts.

Today's economic restraints and security concerns of anyone being harmed while on school grounds, and common sense - all of these dictate that this is not the time to build tennis courts on campus.
