LAKE PLACID - A precautionary boil water notice, issued on Wednesday for customers of the Town of Lake Placid Water system was rescinded today.

Customers may now return to regular water use, as of 9 a.m. Friday.

Gary Freeman, director of utilities, announced Friday morning that bacteriological samples taken on both Thursday and Friday were cleared, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

"The water is safe and has always been safe," said Freeman.

The tap went dry for many water customers on Wednesday morning after a computer glitch caused the town's storage tanks, which together store up to 300,000 gallons of drinking water, went dry.
