In response to a letter titled "Gun Control," Mr. Gillis offers a very well-written letter and gives us "food for thought."
I am, however, left uncertain what his opinion, or proposed solution, might be.
I'm in agreement with others who see Washington, D.C., not as a state but as a major urban area. A truer comparison would be that of D.C. versus New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Miami or Atlanta.
Setting aside my personal views on gun ownership, I do understand that each community lives and operates with differing values, standards and needs. That said, it's my firm belief that the residents of each town, city, county and state should decide for themselves what works best for them.
Blanket federal laws, at the expense of law-abiding U.S. citizens, are not the answers to the problems faced by a handful of metropolitan cities.
