It's Too Late

I hear the Democrats (and some Republicans) saying that it's no use drilling for oil now, wherever possible, because it would take years to relieve us of our dependence on foreign oil!

Are we actually so dense that we don't realize that the very excuse is an indication that something drastic should have been done 10, 20 or 30 years ago to avoid the dilemma we are facing now.

If something isn't done now what will the problem be like 10, 20 or 30 years from now? It certainly will not have solved itself. It will more likely be well on the way to destroying us.

I am well aware that we need to be careful to safeguard the environment from careless and slipshod methods, but I am confident that America has the intelligence, the means and the will to proceed with caution and safety, if allowed to do so.

Alternate means, when well thought through, undoubtedly can help, but there are dangers there also.
Take for instance the rush without adequate thought to the use of ethanol to replace small quantities of oil. We are seeing that taking from the food chain has had dire consequences in the price of food without making any dent in the price or supply of oil! Forethought is essential.

Surely it is possible to extract and process oil safely. It is possible to build and maintain atomic energy reactors safely, and it is possible to find other alternative sources of energy without damaging other areas of our economy. Let's do it!
