SEBRING - James K. "Jim" Otterman was appointed the next executive director of Florida's Heartland Rural Economic Development Initiative Inc (FHREDI) effective July 1.
Otterman began his career selling residential real estate in 1985.
Since that time, his career included all aspects of real estate sales, marketing and management.
He was selected to instruct real estate courses for South Florida Community College in 1988, which led to the opening of his own real estate school four years later.
In 1992 he became the owner of a franchised real estate firm which grew to three offices before its acquisition by another firm in 2005. Otterman has held leadership roles in business and civic associations and is an alumnus of Leadership Highlands.
Otterman has been a resident of Highlands County for 30 years. He and his wife, Terri, live in Lake Placid and have four grown children. Otterman also serves as a deacon at Grace Bible Church.
"I believe my experience as a successful small business owner and knowledge of the Heartland area will allow me to be an asset to the organization's mission of improving the economic climate within the region," he said.
