SEBRING - During a traffic stop Thursday afternoon a Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy smelled marijuana leading to the seizure of about 26 1/2 pounds of the illegal plant that was in the vehicle's trunk.

Deputy Robin Singles made the traffic stop in the area of Rozier Road and U.S. 27 in Lake Placid after seeing a vehicle following too closely on U.S. 27.

The street value of the marijuana is estimated at $130,000.

Sheriff Susan Benton complimented Deputy Singles for his commitment to traffic enforcement, according to a press release from the sheriff's office. "This traffic stop reinforces the value of traffic enforcement as a valuable investigative tool in crime fighting," Benton said.

Geraldo Casana, 47, of Clermont and Rudio Fleitas, 36, of Hialeah were arrested and both men were charged with trafficking in marijuana in excess of 25 pounds and possession of drug paraphernalia and are currently being held in the Highlands County Jail without bond.
