Sidewalk Is Needed In Sun 'N Lakes South

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Attention all homeowners of Sun 'N Lakes south, there is an opportunity for the community to get the sidewalk extended to the south along Sun 'N Lakes Boulevard, which will give those who live south of Sweetheart Avenue, safer walking. The existing sidewalk gets a lot of use by those who get their daily exercise by walking along that half mile that goes to Highway 29.

Paul Glanzel, president of the Sun 'N Lakes Homeowners Association, will be presenting the case to the members of the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee (RPAC) to justify the request for funding today at 2:30 p.m. at the Sports Complex off North Highlands Avenue in Sebring. He needs to show the committee the community supports this request and convince the members of RPAC of the need for the sidewalk extension. If they agree they will take the request to the Board of County Commissioners and recommend approval for funding on July 24.

It's Today At 2:30 PM
To get to the Sports Complex, turn right on Highlands Avenue at the Highlands Regional Medical Center then go past the Sebring High School and turn right onto Sheriff's Tower Road, the address is 216 Sheriff's Tower Road. The meeting is on the second floor and an elevator is available.

Paul has put a lot of time and work into getting this proposal together and we really need to support him. That additional length of sidewalk is needed for the safety of walkers and bikers. So let's get up there and give him our support.

I know that many of us have stopped going up to Sebring unless it is absolutely necessary because of the high cost of gasoline. A trip to Sebring can cost $8-10 for the round trip. So here's what you should do.

Stop whatever you are doing and make a list of the things you need that you cannot buy here in Lake Placid, get your extra gas container and fill up your car while up there, gas can usually be found about 10 cents cheaper per gallon. Call a couple of your friends and neighbors to see if they would like to ride along with you to the Sports Complex, maybe they will give you a buck or two for the ride.

The Sky Is Falling
If you watch the History Channel and the Discovery Channel as much as I do then you too are aware of the many ways that they have portrayed how civilization will come to an end. Huge comets or meteors crashing into Earth, massive volcano eruptions, Earth warming, Earth freezing, monstrous tsunamis and other disastrous calamities which will destroy most everything that lives. Perhaps the world will begin again millions of years hence with other creatures inhabiting where man once lived.

We are in an election year and desperately hoping that whoever we elect will have some kind of solution to the energy crisis, the war, the cost of living and many other problems which seem unsolvable to us of average intelligence.

It occurs to me that those in power have some kind of knowledge that it does not matter who takes over, these problems cannot be solved, but perhaps they secretly know or believe in the Mayan prediction that the world is going to come to an end on Dec. 21, 2112.

The rich and the powerful are getting as rich as possible before that date so that maybe they can buy their survival.
