Couple Finds Dead Deer On Car Hood

SEBRING - It wasn't like finding a horse's head at the foot of the bed, like in "The Godfather" movie, but finding a dead deer on the hood of your mom's car parked in your driveway could be just as unnerving.

"Weird," was how Sebring Police Lt. Bruce Crum put it Monday.

Next to the deer's body and held down by a silver dollar was a poem Sunday morning on a torn slip of paper. The lyrics were from the song "Aenima" by an alternative metal rock band called "Tool."

The police were called at 10:14 a.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of Myrtle Avenue, in Sebring.

The complainant, a 21-year-old woman, told police that she and her boyfriend had returned home at about 3 a.m. Sunday and didn't see any deer then.

At 6:30 a.m. her boyfriend's brother woke them up and told them about the dead deer on the hood of the black 1996 Camaro.

The couple went back to sleep until 9 a.m., when they woke up, the report stated. The woman had to take the boyfriend to work.

She told police her boyfriend dragged the deer's carcass from the car's hood into a nearby field until police arrived.

There were no signs the deer had been shot.

The woman told police they don't have any enemies and haven't been involved in any fights in several months. She said that while it was an odd incident, she didn't feel threatened.

"We really don't have any leads to follow up on here," said Crum.

The deer was young and police believe it was hit by an unknown vehicle. Both rear legs were broken through the skin.

Crum said any charges, if filed, might be trespassing of private property. Police believe the whole thing was a prank.

"There was no damage done to the vehicle," he said. The blood washed right off, he added.
