This week I read that Carl Cool, who retired as Highlands County Administrator, had announced his candidacy to run for county commissioner. I was very surprised to see an employee of the county who retries one week and announces he was seeking re-employment by the county within two weeks. I thought this would be unethical.
I am very concerned that the county puts out so much money to find a new county administrator and when they hire one, the retired one may become his boss. Can this work? I know I was once put in a similar situation and it was very uncomfortable.
If Mr. Cool wanted to continue working for the county, maybe he should have reconsidered his retirement. I feel we should give Mr. Wright (the new county administrator) a chance to mold the county in whatever way he feels is best for Highlands County's future, without involvement from passed administration.
It is way past time for Highlands County to move forward with new goals from new sources.
