Career Academy

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The School Board of Highlands County recently gave the "go ahead" to begin a secondary education Career Academy. The academy will be for 11th- and 12th-grade students. It will be located on the South Florida Community College campus. Students will spend a half day studying their academic subjects. The remainder of the day they will learn a technical/vocational skill.

By successfully completing their program at the academy, students will graduate with competence in academic work and acquired a salable skill. This will allow a student to enter the work force and/or continue their studies at the college.

A fringe benefit of housing the Career Academy at the community college is the opening of needed classrooms at the high school.

Congratulations to Superintendent of Schools Wally Cox, South Florida Community College President Norman Stephens and the members of the Highlands County School Board. Over the next years our students and our community will reap many benefits from the career academy.
