SEBRING - A Sebring woman and her family were safe Tuesday after getting away from her husband, who reportedly beat the woman and threatened to shoot them all if they tried to leave their home.
Jesus Vasquez Grimaldo, 44, of Sebring, also known as Jesus Vasquez, Jose Grimaldo and Jose Grimaldo Vasquez, was booked Monday on charges of two counts of kidnap-false imprisonment adult victim, resisting a law enforcement officer without violence, kidnap-false imprisonment of a child with aggravated abuse, three counts of cruelty toward a child with infliction of physical or mental injury and one count of battery.
The arrest report stated at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, Grimaldo, who had been drinking, started an argument with his wife, 36, while upstairs in the couple's bedroom. He grabbed her by the shirt, scratching her shoulder, and dragged her out of the room, the report stated.
A 14-year-old teenager told Grimaldo to leave the mother alone, at which point Grimaldo struck the teen in the face, the report stated. The mother, the 14-year-old and an 18-year-old went downstairs, where the argument continued.
Grimaldo reportedly grabbed a .44 caliber revolver and threatened to shoot them if they left the house.
The mother told her 9- and 15-year-old girls to get out of the house. They went upstairs and got on the roof and jumped. They ran down the road to safety, the report stated. The mother and the two boys were able to calm Grimaldo down.
They escaped while he showered, also running down the road to safety.
When deputies entered the home through an open door, they saw Grimaldo inside the house. They ordered him to the ground and when he refused, tasered him before arresting him. The handgun was found inside the home.
