Driver Seriously Injured in Crash

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Lakeland resident was taken to Highlands Regional Medical Center in serious condition Friday evening after crashing through a drainage culvert and flipping on the left side of his Ford SUV, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Ronald Hinkley Jr., 47, was driving east along U.S. 98 toward Hayward Taylor Boulevard, in Sebring, at 6:10 p.m. According to the report, Hinkley told FHP Cpl. Larry H. McClellan Jr. that he blanked out for some unknown reason.

As he allegedly blanked out, he drove off the right side of the road and drove into a drainage ditch. He continued through the ditch until hitting a drainage culvert, when his SUV went airborne.

He continued across a driveway, the report stated, and crashed into the south shoulder, causing the SUV to flip end-over-end through a chain link fence and onto the property of a storage facility, where the SUV landed on the driver's side.

Hinkley's condition was not known Sunday afternoon. A secretary at Highlands Regional was not able to find a record on Hinkley.

Hinkley was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
