AP Man Charged With Battery On Police

An Avon Park man was free Wednesday on $2,500 bail after he was zapped by police with a Taser-type weapon after two women complained that he threatened them and police say he refused to comply with their orders.

Jasper "J.T." Timothy Massey, 30, of 600 E. Canfield St., No. 658, Avon Park, was charged with battery on a police officer, resisting arrest with violence and two counts of assault.

According to a report by police officer Nathan Coogan, it was about 11:20 p.m. Sunday when he and police Sgt. Marc Wilbur went to the 600 block of East Canfield Street to answer a disturbance call.

Two female victims, 19 and 20, said Massey threatened them as they walked out of their apartment.

They said Massey cursed at them while asking if they had a problem. He then reportedly cursed and made a remark about kicking both of their "gay" (explicative deleted) (explicative deleted).

When police approached Massey to speak with him, he cursed at the officers, asking what they wanted. He refused to come out of his apartment.

Coogan reported he told Massey he was conducting an investigation and needed him to come out. Massey then reportedly slammed the door, which "forcibly" hit Coogan in the upper body.

After Massey refused to open the door, Coogan "breached" it, the report stated.

Massey reportedly stood in the living room with his fists balled up. He didn't get to the ground after the police officers asked him to, after which Wilbur tasered Massey and arrested him, the report stated.
