Congressman Mahoney

Congratulations Congressman Mahoney, you finally remembered that Highlands County is your district. Of course, when you ran two years ago you claimed that you had a ranch in Venus, even though I am told, the mail that was addressed to Venus was returned to sender. It did not matter much, however, since you sold that property shortly after you were elected.

All of a sudden, you decided to set up an office here in Highlands County. Where were you 18 months ago? I then received a large card telling us that we had all kinds of grants that we could apply for. Is that not just great, urging us to spend even more of the taxpayer's money when many of us are going broke, unable to pay mortgages, cannot afford the prices of gasoline and to a great extent, it is because the government is spending too much of our money. Do we have any say so about what is being spent? Of course, we can elect big spenders like yourself to assure that taxes will continue to rise so you fellows in Washington can keep spending. The topper is your "Political Card."

If folks look carefully at the smallest print on that card, you will find the card's printing and postage is at "Taxpayer's Expense." What a deal, urging us to spend more money and getting your name in front of the people during an election year and guess what, we, the taxpayers, are paying for your "political" ad. You don't suppose that all this "great advice and opening an office" is coming along now because it is re-election time, do you.

Oh well, what else can we expect? After all, we are the ones that elected you. And if we did not want you to keep on spending as fast as you can, we would not have elected you to begin with. Oh, one more thing, I did not vote for you, why? Because I am sick of all the rampant spending.
