Evel Knievel

»  Comments | Post a Comment

In response to Stephen Lee Goodman's letter of Jan.18 regarding Evel Knievel, Goodman made mention of those who said Knievel was "crazy, egotistical and in latter years called him a cranky old man."

Perhaps many of those did not follow Evel's life to his most victorious achievement. Before his death, Evel Knievel contacted Dr. Robert H. Schuller and his son, Robert A. Schuller of The Crystal Cathedral. Their televised program, "The Hour of Power," is the longest running and most watched Christian program in television history because he wanted the world to know about his most important victory.

Dr. Schuller visited Evel at his home in Tampa. Evel then appeared on "The Hour of Power" on on April 22, 2007, telling of the most remarkable feat of his life in that of accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized on "The Hour of Power" and his message was so well received that the entire program that day, unbeknownst to the Schullers, was that of baptizing thousands who came to Christ, including current day daredevil Trigger Gunn. Evel's story can be seen on http://www.hourofpower.org/acceptchrist/video.php.

Rest assured, Evel has achieved his greatest victory and thus is now in the presence and glory of God! To prove that Evel Knievel was born again as a Christian he ordered the following words to be added to his tombstone: "And he believed in Jesus Christ." Rest assured, Stephen, he is indeed resting in peace.
