We early "snowbirds" arrived during the months of October, November and December. We anticipated the many craft fairs prior to Christmas, as in years past.
Armed with dollars to spend, we looked forward to our treks to seek out spices, candles, jewelry, clothing, baked goods, Christmas decorations, etc. In the past we have spent upwards to $50 at each of these fairs. I don't recall us ever walking out empty handed.
Daily looks into the newspaper advertising the fairs and looking in and around town yielded futile hopes.
Normally, we attended the craft shows at the Sebring Civic Center, Kenilworth Lodge, Agri-Civic Center and Lake Placid's Arts in the Park. Yes, there were small craft shows at the local churches, but we looked forward to the larger shows and purchases of gifts for friends and family.
We realize the economy has slowed things down but people haven't stopped crafting. Have the costs of booths exceeded the average crafter's budget and discouraged them from participation? What happened to all the shows?
