Veterans Beach Water Ruled Unsafe

SEBRING - Veteran's Beach has failed a water quality test, making it unsafe for swimming.
Health Department officials have determined Veteran's Beach has an unsatisfactory rating after two samples were taken because of high levels of fecal coliform.

City Administrator Bob Hoffman said the high fecal coliform is likely caused by a combination of the low water level, wave action and high number of birds flocking to the area and making deposits in the lake.

Hoffman said the water will not be treated because the high level of fecal coliform should return to a satisfactory level naturally.

The water will be tested again at the end of January.

The city of Sebring has not failed the monthly tests, analyzed from water samples, in several years.
The other Sebring public beaches, City Pier, Hidden Beach and Crescent Beach all passed the water test.
