I'm commenting on the Highlands Today editorial about giving our veterans a stipend of $75 per month, which is fine, but not nearly enough.
We have sent our finest over to battle for our freedoms in so many wars. We train them to kill, and whatever it takes to win. Then home they come, mixed-up, confused, depressed, no job, half the time they have lost their families, and we're gonna' give them $75 a month?
Every county should be mandated to put up a facility where these soldiers can use until they get readjusted. A type of retirement place. Nice grounds, nice rooms, etc.
I have read that almost half the homeless are our veterans. No place to go. That's disgusting. We treat our hardened criminals with more care. What are we doing for the veterans?
We just ignore them, throw them to the wolves, let them sleep in boxes on the streets and live a terrible life.
I see it every day, actually leading the good-life, while our war heroes are living in some alley. It's not right! Where is the backbone of our politicians? Time to stop spending so much on those who refuse to improve themselves, and time to start spending on our veterans who obviously need help.
