The new railroad crossing on DeSoto Road was long overdue to anyone that travels that road daily.
Years ago I spoke to a county commissioner at the railroad crossing. He advised me there were other crossings in Highlands County that were rougher than the one on DeSoto Road. I then asked him if he was proud of that knowledge.
There is now a sign to warn motorists about the rough crossing. It's strange that sign was not in place when the crossing was indeed rough.
Hats off to the railroad and any and all local persons for this super job done on the DeSoto railroad crossing.
