In response to the article Milking FEMA, I find it quite interesting how one person can begrudge someone without knowing all the circumstances involved.
Yes, I am "that lady." I do not need to justify to you as to why I received assistance after damage caused from a hurricane. I will say that I am a taxpayer, have a job and have a home. Oh, I have been in the work force for greater than 30 years. So, let me laugh at your remark as to "get a job and a home!"
As for FEMA sending a collection letter, yes they did, but they failed to check their records. If they had, they would have seen that my family and I had moved prior to the months that they are collecting for. It was their mobile that sat vacant for approximately three to four months (the time in question) before FEMA moved it out of the park. In the move, three park properties were destroyed, two or three tires on the FEMA mobile were ruined and it took more than 24 hours to move it. Don't you think the taxpayers paid for the destruction, the repairs, not to mention the two tow trucks and the salaries for the drivers? So, do you think FEMA has their ducks in a row? Wrong. Some people were allowed to purchase their FEMA mobiles for $500, while others were forced to move.
So why don't you try to walk in someone else's shoes before you judge them an learn the facts before you criticize.
