AVON PARK -- The talented team of Rodney and Lisa Davis won the monthly installment of the Heartland Couples Golf League on Saturday at River Greens Golf Course.
The Davis duo won the Gross Division with a 78, while Ken and Michelle Koon placed second with a 79 and Keith and Pat Kincer finished third with an 80 after a match of cards.
The win gave team Davis enough points to move into first place in the overall standings with 190 points in the six-month league.
The Koon's are a close second in the overall standings with 185 points, while Jim and Toni Brooks are in third place at 180.
The Net Division winners of Saturday's event was Charles and Kay Hardin with a 58, Johnny and Peggy Wehunt placed second with a 61 after a match of cards with the duo of Jim and Sheila Bolan.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Handan Schneider for the women on hole No. 3 and Ken Koon on hole No. 3 for the men.
Pat Kincer won the closest-to-the-line contest on hole No. 18.
The format for Saturday's tournament was six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble and six holes of alternate shot competition.
With several tournaments left on the schedule, there is plenty of golf left for any of the couples to make a move for the end-of-the-year honors.
Charles and Kay Hardin are still in the thick of the action in fourth place with 175 points, while Bill and Barb Lockwood and Ken and June Maloney are tied for fifth with 170.
The idea behind the Heartland Couples Golf League is for men and women to play together on Saturday's and then enjoy a fine dinner afterward.
There is still room for more couples to join the fun in time for the next event on March 8 at Placid Lakes Country Club.
