SEBRING - Up to one hour of today's state Board of Education meeting in Tallahassee will be reserved for public input on the proposed science standards.

Those interested in providing testimony should arrive at the Cabinet Meeting room in the state capitol at 8 a.m. to complete a speaker card. Speaker cards will be available in the lobby outside the Cabinet Meeting room. The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m.

Equal time will be given to those who wish to speak in support of the standards as written and those who wish to speak in support of the standards with changes, according the the Florida Department of Education (FDOE).

Speakers will be allotted three minutes each and will need to sign-up to speak on a first-come, first-serve basis.

It is anticipated that testimony will be heard from a maximum of 10 speakers in support of the standards as written and 10 speakers in support of the standards with changes, the FDOE states.

The FDOE previously held five public hearings throughout the state (Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Miramar and two in Orlando) to gather public feedback on the proposed standards. In addition, approximately 10,000 individuals provided more than 260,000 ratings and 20,000 comments regarding the proposed standards through a Web-based system.
