COMPLETE STORY: Avon Park Murder Suspect Turns Himself In

AVON PARK - The Highlands County Sheriff's Office has issued a press release that Donald Alfonso Henry, 37, turned himself in to the Orlando Police Department Thursday on murder charges, in connection with an Avon Park murder.

A warrant was issued for Henry earlier this month in connection with the shooting death of Hugh Andrew Marks. Marks' murder occurred on Jan. 7, near the intersection of Garrett Road and Alabama Avenue, in Avon Park.

The press release said that the sheriff's office received phone calls from citizens who reported having heard gunshots in the area when Marks was shot. When deputies arrived to the scene, they found Marks lying on the ground near the intersection. Emergency Medical Service workers later determined that Marks was dead.

The press release goes on to say that an investigation led by Det. Jamie Davidson uncovered probable cause to identify Henry as Marks' shooter. A warrant was then issued for Henry's arrest.

Authorities developed leads which revealed that Henry allegedly had assistance in leaving Highlands County, traveling to Orlando.

On Jan. 16, Vackara Darnell Massaline, 31, was arrested on a charge of accessory after the fact in the murder of Marks. Investigators believe that Massaline provided assistance to Henry following Marks' murder.

On Thursday, sheriff's office Lt. Tim Lethbridge said that to the best of his knowledge Henry didn't have any charges in Orlando that would delay his extradition to the Highlands County Jail.
