Police were still investigating Monday the armed robbery early Saturday of the Hilltop Shell gas station and convenience store, located at the intersection of Memorial Drive and East Main Street.
"Our detectives are running down some leads," said Avon Park Police Cmdr. Michael J. Rowan on Monday morning.
A single clerk and two other people were inside the store at 12:09 a.m. Saturday, when a lone gunman entered the convenience store, demanding cash, Rowan said.
The gunman reportedly was carrying a chrome-colored handgun. He was dark complexioned, small in stature, young - in his 20s, wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black baseball cap. The cap had no distinguishable markings.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
The gunman got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, Rowan said.
"The suspect ran west from the storefront," Rowan said. "A sheriff's K-9 tracked the suspect with negative results."
It is not known if the suspect got into a vehicle.
Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact Avon Park Police Det. Sgt. Jason Lister or Det. Dan Burke at 863-453-6622.
