I want to alert any AARP members to check any bills they get in the mail. Make sure you haven't paid them already.
Last fall, I mailed AARP a check for $12.50, for a year's membership. I never heard from them so I called and they said they never got the check. They talked me into letting them take $21 out of my bank electronically for two years. When I got my bank statement they had cashed my check for the $12.50, and also electronically taken out the $21, a total of $33.50.
Since then I have gotten one bill after the other asking for payment. I wrote several letters proving that I had already paid three years. I finally heard this month from an AARP representative; this is after a year of writing. She said that I had only paid $12.50, but out of the kindness of her heart she is giving me a free year's membership. I am actually paid up until 2010. I have proof of everything I have written in my bank statement. How do you get through to huge organizations?
