A 15-year-old Lake Placid youth with a Class E learner's license was issued a ticket by Sebring police charging him with running a red light on U.S. 27 at the south Sebring Wendy's restaurant.
The Tuesday morning crash sent a 66-year-old man to Florida Hospital complaining of neck pain.
Police officer Paul Deshazo said the youth was headed south in a 2008 Jeep Wrangler on U.S. 27, when a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Brian Pluta, 66, of Avon Park tried to cross the roadway from Lakeview Drive to the Wendy's restaurant.
Pluta's vehicle struck the rear wheel of the Jeep, causing damage to the rear axle and ultimately the Jeep flipped, Deshazo said.
The driver, his mom Charlene Morris, 37, and a friend, as well as Pluta were all buckled in.
The occupants of the Jeep refused treatment, Deshazo said.
Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $25,000 to $30,000 and the Blazer sustained about $5,000 damage, Deshazo said.
