Pigs Run Amok

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I read with interest last week the story about the wayward bull downtown. When a citizen complained, several city and county agencies sprang into action to corral the bull and secure him away from the area.

This must be in a different city from where I live, although I was under the assumption that I lived in the same city. I and my neighbors live in a neighborhood just off U.S. 27 and Hammock Road at the end of Imperial Street and Golfside Lane. The last time I received our tax bill it indicated we lived in the city limits, however when we tried to get help with a bunch of wild pigs we were told the city could do nothing.

The pigs, approximately seven or eight, and a couple of them very large - 200 pounds or more - and a litter of smaller ones live in the woods beside the eighth green on Sebring Municipal Golf Course, which is also where Imperial and Golfside come to a point. The homeowner who lives at that location has already had his backyard uprooted by these pigs and they are getting bolder as time goes on.

We were told by every agency we contacted - Florida Game and Fish and animal control - that the pigs were our problem and we would have to deal with them ourselves. I guess that there are two different sets of rules for the citizens of the Circle and the rest of the citizens of Sebring.

Can anyone inform us how to get rid of these pigs? My wife just informed me that since I started this letter, the pigs have moved into the neighbor's front yard and have torn it up.
