Forgotten People

Dear Mr. President,

I will begin my letter by saying that I didn't voted for you in the past election, but I also want to let you know if it is of some relief to you, that I didn't vote for the guys that were running against you, either.

I felt that none of you were the right choice our country deserves better than the choices both political parties think we need. Please tell them that they are wrong 99 percent of the time. I'm writing this letter to you, and I hope the paper forwards it to you, because maybe you can explain this to all my red brothers and most importantly to me.

How come everyone else has a holiday but us? There is Kwanzaa, Christmas, Rosh Hashanah, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Fourth of July, Father's Day, Mother's Day, National Dairy Month, Black History Month, and Hispanic Heritage Month.

But, we native Americans are still treated like we do not exist. Do you want us to celebrate Thanksgiving? That will be like asking a Jew to celebrate Hitler's birthday, or give thanks for the concentration camps. I don't know if you'd noticed, but are the reservations we were put on some kind of concentration camps? If it were not for the Indians that fed the first people that landed at Plymouth Rock, there would not be any American colonies, but still we are treated worse than refugees in our country.

Do you remember the trail of tears or the massacres my people suffered so that now there there could be a Montana, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and all those states out west? Don't we deserve a national apology? Blacks got one for slavery, the Japanese Americans got one for what we did to them in WWII. You are now even offering amnesty to illegal aliens. When will the illegal aliens in our precious turtle island do the same to us? Don't you think that we deserve at the least a holiday?
