LORIDA - A motorcyclist who could have been cited once for speeding instead fled from a patrol car and is facing 15 violations.

According to a report filed by Deputy William J. Gentry Jr., a motorcycle was seen traveling north on Sparta Road near Schlosser Road. It was running 71 mph in a 35 mph zone, Gentry said.

When Gentry turned on his siren, the motorcycle accelerated, passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone. Gentry radioed dispatch to announce he was now in pursuit, and other officers joined the chase.

The motorcycle turned onto U.S. 27, failing to stop at a red light, then south onto Alternate 27 and Lakeview Drive. Passing a number of stop signs, the motorcycle went around the traffic circle, onto Martin Luther King, down to DeSoto City Road, and wound up eastbound on U.S. 98, where it turned onto Thunder Road. There it picked up two more marked police units.

At Irish Road in Lorida, the driver lost control of the bike, said Lt. Jess Purvis.
Jason Alan Himmelberger was arrested and transported to Highlands County Jail, where he was booked on one criminal and 14 civil citations.
