SPRING LAKE - A 20-year-old Sebring man was arrested after Highlands County Deputy Shannon Purvis observed him walking away from Food Town after the convenience store closed.
After observing blood on the driver's door and left hand, she asked what he was doing.
"He then stated he had just broke into the store by throwing a brick," Purvis said in her report. She arrested Joseph Heston Jr., and then determined the Jeep Cherokee he was driving had been stolen from his mother, Cathy Heston, who was willing to press charges.
The owner of the store, Rebecca Masri, found the front door had been broken and that beer and cigarettes, worth about $53, had been taken. Damage was estimated at $250.
He was booked into Highlands County Jail with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, grand theft auto and driving on a suspended license.
