Electricity Bills

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I am writing in hopes that someone can help me solve a problem with my electric bill. I am sure I am not the only customer of Progress Energy who has had outrageous bills.

My bill has been over $300 per month for the last few months. This is what I paid when my daughter and grandchildren visit during Thanksgiving. They are here for a week; I have the pool heater on, there are extra showers, laundry, etc.

I don't understand why, when I am here alone with no pool heater, I do two loads of laundry a month, and I keep the air conditioner on 73, that my bill is the same as when I have family here and use the pool heater.

According to my latest bill, I used 2,673 kwh between Aug. 9 and Sept. 10. I am charged 5.15700 cents for the first 1,000 kw and 6.15700 cents over 1,000 kw. First of all, I feel this is wrong. Why do I have to pay a higher rate over a certain amount of kw? Secondly, I am billed a fuel charge of 4.79800 cents for the first 1,000 kw and 5.79800 cents over the 1,000. I am assuming the little c after the amount is cents, as it appears on my bill.

If anyone can explain this to me, I would love to hear from them. Otherwise, I would like to organize a group to confront Progress Energy and find out why they feel they have the right to rip us off like this. We may live in Florida, we may be retired, but we are not rich. Nowhere near as rich as Progress Energy is because of the way they bill us.
