I moved to Highlands County a year ago to take a job in the health care field. I thought the base pay was excellent for a new graduate, just a little more than what I would have started out up north.
I never took into consideration the fact that the cost of living in Highlands County was almost double what I experienced up north. The fact that the taxes are exorbitant eats up most of my paycheck.
The health care in this area is lacking, and I can see why. No one in their right mind would move here. There needs to be incentives to get people to move here and stay here. The cost of living runs everyone off.
Look around, get a wake-up call. Can you not see people are moving out? County commissioners and those of you who represent us at the capital, take into consideration the fact that you are running people off with the high cost of living. Give people in the community service a break, because you are breaking us.
