Ag-Venture Wonderful Educational Experience For Local Students

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Highlands County third-graders are in for special treat this week and it has nothing to do with Halloween.

It has everything to do with agriculture, as the young students will be able to participate in the 8th annual Ag-Venture on Tuesday at the Highlands County Fairgrounds in Sebring.

The agricultural community comes together in an effort to educate children about the importance of agriculture not only in Highlands County but in the state as well as the country.

Some of the students probably have not visited a farm or a ranch. There are perhaps many who don't know that Highlands produces more than citrus and cattle.

Stations will be set up for the students. Among other things they will learn about bees, caladiums, ornamental horticulture, poultry, grapes, alligators and vegetables.

Some of the stations will provide a hands-on experience for the students, which sure beats getting the information from a book.

The public can lend its support to the event by picking up a steak dinner Tuesday afternoon at Firemen's Field.

Ag-Venture doesn't just happen. It takes a lot of time by a lot of people, and they are all volunteers.

We appreciate that and thank them for contributing to a worthwhile event.
