SEBRING - A Sebring man was treated and released at Florida Hospital Heartland on Thursday after he was bumped while riding his moped on U.S. 27 southbound near Pizzano's Pizza and Grinderz.

Warlito Reyes, 64, was riding his 2007 Yamaha moped in the far right lane at about 9:52 a.m. Thursday, when his handlebar was bumped by the mirror of a passing 2002 Ford Taurus, driven by Margaret Wychoff, 86, of Sebring, police officer Brandon Low reported.

There was a small scratch on the mirror to indicate the impact.
However, as Reyes lost control of the moped, he fell off and the moped skid into the right lane of U.S. 27, where it was run over by a UPS truck also headed south.

The UPS driver did not have time to change lanes or to stop, Low reported.
It was a good thing Reyes was wearing a helmet, said Low, as the helmet was badly scraped from hitting the pavement as he slid. He avoided serious head injury, Low speculated.

Reyes was treated at Florida Hospital for lacerations and a possible shoulder injury due to the crash, said Low. Wychoff was not hurt. She, at first, wasn't even sure she hit the moped.
She will be cited on a charge of improper passing, Low said.
