AVON PARK - It will be a sweet homecoming, literally, for Avon Park High School this week with the theme - "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

Avon Park High teacher and student council sponsor Lorri Jaques said the student council president wanted a "Candyland" atmosphere for homecoming.

"We have made large lollipops and we are decorating with a lot of candy," Jaques said Wednesday. "We are excited about the theme - it is different from many past themes."

Line-up of the homecoming parade will start at 4 p.m. today with the parade beginning at 5 p.m. near Museum Avenue and Main Street. It will travel east on Main Street until Verona Avenue where the parade will proceed west on Main Street back to the starting point.

The homecoming king and queen candidates will drive around Joe Franza Stadium around 7:15 p.m. Friday prior to the football game. The king and queen will be crowned at halftime.

It's the homecoming football game at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Avon Park Red Devils facing the Braden River Pirates.

The icing on the cake or wrap up of the festive week will be the homecoming dance in the school's cafeteria from 8 p.m. until midnight with a "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," theme.
